Dental Bonding Can Repair Your Smile

All of us would like to show off a perfect smile, but if you have chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth, the problem can seem overwhelming. Did you know there may be a simple solution to help you repair these problems and restore a beautiful smile? At our Raleigh cosmetic dentistry office, dental bonding is one of the many solutions we offer our patients.

What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a surprisingly simple process that can improve the appearance of your teeth in as little as one trip to the dentist office. Even better, dental bonding is one of the least expensive cosmetic dental procedures available. This procedure requires little prep, preserves more of your natural tooth, and, in most cases, will not even require the use of anesthesia.

Can Dental Bonding Help You?

Is dental bonding the treatment that is best suited to your dental problems? Dental bonding is a possible solution for many dental problems, including the following:

  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Tooth decay (dental bonding is a cosmetic alternative for metal fillings)
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Exposed roots due to receding gums

The Dental Bonding Process

The dental bonding procedure is relatively uncomplicated and quick; treatment can usually be completed in just one trip to the dentist office. In order to produce a natural look, we will first choose a resin that will best match the color of your teeth. Once a color is selected, the surface of the tooth (or teeth) to be treated will be roughed up and a conditioning liquid will be applied. This step will prepare your tooth for the bonding material and ensure that it adheres to the tooth. Next, the tooth-colored bonding material (a putty-like substance) will be applied to the tooth and shaped and smoothed into place. An ultraviolet light or laser will be used to harden the material. Once the material has hardened, the tooth may be shaped, trimmed, and polished to blend in with the natural look of your teeth. The procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
