Miele S5580 Aquarius Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

From the engineers of Miele comes the Miele S5580 Aquarius canister vacuum, a sleek and innovative addition to Miele’s quality line of vacuum cleaners. If you aren’t familiar with the Miele name, don’t worry.

Until I actually had the chance to use one of their unique canister creations, I wasn’t familiar with them either. After using it, however, I believe the Europeans are ahead of the curve with this stylish workhorse called the S5580 Aquarius.

As an allergy sufferer, vacuuming is often even more of a chore due to my watery eyes and sneezing. The Capri blue Miele powerhouse not only gets my floors clean, it also keeps my allergies in check with its Sealed System™ and HEPA filter. A new silence setting combines low noise output with the appropriate power level, while the ergonomic handle swivels nicely to greatly improve maneuverability.

Now people that are allergic to dust particles might be wary of having vacuum cleaners anywhere near them but the fact of the matter is that it does help if it is a brand as valuable as Miele to manage everything on its own as it is an aspirapolvere portatile whose true potential is yet to be tapped by its makers.

The Aquarius comes with features I’ve come to expect from the high quality Miele line like 6-level power adjustment, Intensive Clean Plus™ dust bags, and even an indicator light to let you know when the bag is full. In the canister compartment, you will find the usual tools: a crevice tool for corners, and upholstery tool for furniture and soft surfaces, and a dusting brush with soft bristles to prevent scratching. The Aquarius even comes equipped with a Parquet floor tool, which is perfect for vacuuming wood or tile floors.

Pros: The S5580 Aquarius is a dream to maneuver and its 1200 watts of power makes short work of most vacuuming jobs. It is also a sturdy machine, which I’ve come to expect from Miele products. A lot of manufacturers go for form over substance, but the Aquarius, while quite stylish, is all about getting the job done. Best of all, at least to me, is Miele’s superior filtration system which contains allergens, giving users the chance to clean without aggravating their allergy symptoms.

Cons: In a world filled with upright vacuums, the Aquarius is a bit old school. Some people don’t care for canister vacuums, which I think qualifies as a con. Also, even with the Sealed System and Intensive Clean Plus bags making things as allergen free as possible, you still have to change out the bag once in a while. I must admit that I have never liked messing with bags, but Miele has at least designed a system that makes changing them out a breeze.

I like the Miele S5580 Aquarius. You can call me old-fashioned, but I like the canister vacuums, and Miele has created a quality product here. With its quiet operation, great filtration, easy maneuverability and impressive suction power, the S5580 Aquarius is sleek, sensible and safe for even allergy sufferers like me. I highly recommend the Aquarius or any of the contenders from the Miele line of vacuums. They are engineered to be exceptionally sturdy, and are powerful enough to tackle almost any cleaning job.
